
Our life is like a story book; there is beginning, middle, and ending. We all each have different types of subjects of our lives story, but our goal is same, seeking happiness and avoid suffering. And sometimes we tend to listen to others advice or copy others, lives story subject, to our own story. It might work for some people but for some people it might bring more suffering. For instance, when I was in my age 20’s, I learned from my friends that happiness was all about drinking, smoking and going out for fun. And I did that for a while, in the beginning stage was fun but down the road, I realized that I was becoming anxious, angry and unhappy. I was not the same person that I used to be. I am sure most of you have also experienced something similar to this. Because in this 21st century, drinking is considered to make people stress free and happy.
We tend to get too attached to this type of habit of happiness and many times we over drink and forget our boundaries. And then we end up becoming sick and more stress. And then we search for other types of happiness by asking other people. We are basically letting other’s write in your own story book. It’s like letting a person, who wears shoe size 11, put their feet to your own shoe size 9. Which of course doesn’t fit, and you end up falling also trying to walk in their shoes. So, we have to understand that we all wear different types of shoes and clothes size. There is no such thing as, one shoe or one clothe those fits all.
This example also relates to each family financial budget also. If person A buys a brand-new car and gets a big loan amount car payment. And person A has a good paying job, which he is able to make the monthly auto loan payment. The next day person A tells his friend, person B that he just bought a brand-new car and very happy and satisfied with the new car. Person B saw, his friend’s car and got attached to it right away and end up buying the same car the next day. Three months later, person B started getting very stressed, angry and anxious. And person A asked his friend person B, I noticed lately you look very stressed and angry, “What happened?” Person B replied, since I bought the new car, I started a second fulltime job, to make the monthly auto loan payment. And I barely have time to sleep and eat, because of my two jobs, to make the car payment. So, this example shows that Person A, makes more money with his job title then Person B, and that’s why he is was able to afford to make the car payment with this current one job. But Person B, got to attached to his friend’s car and without even thinking about the car payment, he made the decision too quick to buy the car. So, this shows that, short term happiness leads to unconsciousness decision, that leads to long term suffering.
Another example is, listening to others negative thoughts of opinions, which leads to unhappiness. Everyone likes to speak out their mind or their opinions and most of the time people’s thoughts are negative. Because most people have the habit to think negative and talk negative about others. When we listen to these negative thoughts, our mind also become negative, and we end up copying them and speak negative about others also. These negative thoughts accumulate in our minds and become a big dark cloud. We become more and more angry, and our mind becomes same as the person that always talks negative about others. I experienced this negative behavior myself also before and decided to break the negative chain and avoided these negative thinking people. It’s best to avoid these people and move on with your work or your own daily lives. You have to understand and feel your own emotions, if you feel negative by these people, it’s best to move away.
So, if you want to seek happiness, you have to learn to pick up your pen and write your own story book and don’t let others write for you. Because life is very short, and tomorrow is not guaranteed. And you have to analyze before you make a quick decision and see if this new change or decision will bring you more happiness in long term, with logic reasoning. In nature rose grow in muddy water but rose itself have no mud on it, human mind very complex to understand, top of that we have to work to survive, main thing i think is to balancing life and thinking if Buddha and many people can become enlightened or awaken mind, we all have potential but some have families and kids no time for spiritual study or self study , maybe best 2 lesson is accept unpleasant situation and letting go sometimes.
